  41. We must remember that 3D Studio's $3,000 was regarded as quite a deal
  42. by the people who paid $8-10K for Topas or Digital Arts or...

  44. Now NewTek has done the consumer a favor by lowering the bar again
  45. down to a $995 retail *regardless of platform*, which means much more
  46. on the SGI or Alpha than it does in the PC market.

  48. And all indications are that many people will be able to cross-platform-upgrade
  49. for $150 or so.  And still people will complain that they aren't being
  50. "fair".
